What are the different stainless steel mix tank options?

While there will be companies that only utilize one type of stainless steel for the development of their industrial mixers, there are others that will vary. Stainless steel industrial mix tanks are typically constructed of 304 Stainless Steel, 316L Stainless Steel, Hastelloy C and other exotic metals. We typically offer 3 types of stainless steel mix tanks depending on your mixing needs:

Industrial Duty: Our industrial duty stainless steel mix tanks typically include a mill finish constructed from 304 Stainless Steel. 304 Stainless Steel mix tanks have a high corrosion resistance, best used for pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Although 304 Stainless Steel mix tanks can be more costly than plastic tanks due to material and ongoing labor costs, these stainless steel tanks can be used for wide temperature ranges and high physical strength.

Sanitary Duty: Our sanitary duty stainless steel mix tanks are typically constructed from 304 Stainless Steel or 316L Stainless Steel. Our sanitary stainless steel mix tanks can be best utilized for food and beverage mixing, dairy, and cosmetic mixing. 304 Stainless Steel, as descried above, can be utilized for wide temperature ranges and have a fairly high physical strength. 316L Stainless Steel alloy has a higher corrosion resistance than the 304 Stainless Steel and also has a higher operating temperature range. 316L Stainless Steel mix tanks are also highly resistant to strong acids that make them more applicable for more aggressive applications.

Biopharma Duty: Our biopharma duty stainless steel mix tanks are typically constructed from electro-polished 316L Stainless Steel. These stainless steel mix tanks include material certifications and documentation packages and are typically utilized for highly aggressive applications such as buffer prep, media make-up, vaccines chromatography make-up and more.

Beyond these three categories, stainless steel comes in many grades, like cast, duplex, or hardened by precipitation. It is very important to understand the make of your stainless steel mixer. As with any material, stainless steel can vary in quality and no matter the product you are making, the different qualities of your tank material can impact the quality of the outcome.
